VFW Aux 2020 President visits CTaC Jan 2

January 28, 2020

Camp Toccoa at Currahee was visited by the National President of VFW Auxiliary on Tuesday afternoon Jan 28 2020. She was accompanied by Officers of the state and local VFW Auxiliaries. Peggy Haake of Kahului, Hawaii, was elected National President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) of the United States Auxiliary at its 106th National Convention in Orlando, Florida on July 24, 2019. 

February 1, 2020

 

Riverside, the youth military academy and school in Gainesville Ga came to CTaC on Sat Feb 1 2020. There were 92 people in the group including cadets and staff. They marched up Currahee, the same way trainees did at Camp Toccoa, had lunch on top then marched back to CTaC. Riverside brings their cadets to visit each semester.

June 6, 2020

And the winner is.... Vaneta and Paul Kirsch of Lavonia, GA! On June 6, 2020 the drawing was held for the DDay quilt which was created by Laurie Markusen (see first video above).  The quilt featured elements from past Camp Toccoa at Currahee DDay runs and was personally presented to the winners by the quilt maker (see second video above). 

October 3, 2020

The US Forrest Service displayed items and had personnel on hand to hand out items and answer questions. "Smokey the Bear" also stopped by the take pictures with visitors. 

Also on that day the great grandson of General George Patton, Chaise Patton, paid us a visit.

October 16, 2020

The 2nd 506th visited Camp Toccoa to make the legendary 3 miles up....3 miles down run. 1st 506th visited on October 14th.

October 29, 2020

The 101st Airborne Division 1st Brigade Combat Team paid us a visit to make the run up the mountain.

As a memento of their visit, they presented Camp Toccoa at Currahee with a certificate of appreciation.

Veterans Day -- November 11, 2020

Scenes from Veterans Day at the pavilion including the Highschool Jr. ROTC. Lunch was catered by Elks Lodge #1820.
